Men’s Health
Maintain your health and vitality with personalised care
If you experience symptoms like impotence, energy loss, urinary incontinence, poor ability to concentrate, mood changes, loss of libido, sleep disorders, anxiety or a decrease in muscle mass, you must consider talking to a health care professional.
Together with your prescriber, Fagron’s compounding pharmacists can create a variety of personalised preparations to help with the different health issues that may affect men of all ages.
These health issues include:
Although Andropause (Male Menopause) occurs later than Female Menopause, it is inevitable, and is caused by low testosterone. From the age of 30, men experience a gradual decline in hormone production. The body manufactures less and less testosterone, losing about 1% to 3% per year. Testosterone levels drop dramatically between ages 40 and 55, signalling the onset of andropause and the associated symptoms.
Men are led to believe that they should just accept the symptoms of andropause as a part of the ageing process. It can, however, have a negative impact on work performance, relationships and – most importantly – enjoying life.
Common physical and emotional symptoms experienced by men in andropause include:
Low libido
Weight gain
Muscle loss
Depression
Insomnia
Excessive tiredness
Poor work capacity
Inability to concentrate
Lack of energy
Your natural balance may be restored though personalised hormone replacement therapy, which has been shown to relieve the symptoms of andropause. Your prescriber will consider your symptoms as well as your testosterone levels, and will decide on the customised dosage required to address your unique symptoms.
The value of personalised hormone replacement therapy through pharmacy compounding is its ability to fit your unique body and hormone levels, resulting in better treatment accuracy and a healthier balance.

Topical Hormone Replacement Therapy Creams
The cream releases hormones into the bloodstream, providing relief from hormone deficiency symptoms. Creams can be applied daily, as per the given instructions, on either the forearms, flanks or thighs. Creams are prepared in HRT Heavy™, a hormone therapy topical cream base which provides deep skin penetration. This base is specifically designed for male and female hormone restoration formulations.
Your health care provider will prescribe the specific dose, depending on test results and other health factors. Regular tests are required to ensure optimum levels.

Hormone Replacement Therapy Pellet Implants
A small amount of the hormone is slowly released into the body every day for 3 to 6 months, depending on the pellet dose. Pellet implants are about the size of a grain of rice, and are inserted in a painless and quick procedure in the prescriber’s office (no stitches needed). Pellets are compounded individually for each patient and the health care provider will monitor the hormone levels to ensure that optimum levels are being achieved.
Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is the regular and repeated inability to achieve or sustain an erection suitable for sexual intercourse. It is much more common than one might think: most men will experience it at some point in their lives. There are multiple possible causes for ED, ranging from chronic illness to being too tired. Penile erection is managed by two different mechanisms:
Reflex erection, achieved by direct touch to the penile shaft
Psychogenic erection, achieved by erotic or emotional stimuli
The former uses the peripheral nerves and the lower parts of the spinal cord, whereas the latter uses the limbic system of the brain. In both cases, a healthy neural system is required for complete erection. Adequate levels of testosterone and an intact pituitary gland are also required for healthy erectile function.
Treatments for erectile dysfunction include testosterone replacement therapies, PDE5 inhibitor drugs, self injections into the penis with intracavernosal injections, and dietary adjustments.

Intracavernous Injections
Your health care provider will prescribe a combination of ingredients and a specific dose to treat your ED, depending on test results and other health factors. The optimal dose is usually established after the first few treatments. A moderate or good response to initial therapy is seen in 70% of all patients.

Sublingual Troches or Lozenges
Troches are medicated lozenges that easily dissolve in the mouth. This route of administration makes it easier for active ingredients to rapidly enter the body directly via your mouth and into the blood stream, while avoiding breakdown by the liver. Speak to your prescriber or one of our pharmacists to explore personalised troches from Fagron for erectile dysfunction.
Interstitial cystitis, or bladder pain syndrome (also IC/BPS), is a chronic inflammatory condition of the submucosal and muscular layers of the bladder. The cause is currently unknown, and the condition is regarded as a diagnosis of exclusion.
IC/BPS may be associated with urinary urgency, urinary frequency, waking at night to urinate (nocturia), and sterile urine cultures. Patients with interstitial cystitis may have symptoms that overlap with other urinary bladder disorders, such as urinary tract infection (UTI), overactive bladder, urethritis, urethral syndrome, and prostatitis.
IC/BPS can result in a quality of life comparable to that of a patient with rheumatoid arthritis, chronic cancer pain, or a patient on kidney dialysis.
